Fitness Classes

Sport and Wellbeing offers a great range of fitness classes, designed to help you keep fit while also having fun! Our variety of classes cater to all abilities and fitness levels, and offer something to suit everyone.

The majority of our classes are free to Sport and Wellbeing members but non-members are also very welcome - see 'Prices' for further information.

All classes must be booked in advance - Sport and Wellbeing members may book for "free classes" online.  If you do not yet have your login information, please contact the reception at the Jubilee Sports Centre or Mayflower Gym

These classes are suitable for all. They work on improving and maintaining participants fitness levels.

ClassClass Description
Aqua Aerobics Incorporating aerobic combinations in water with muscle strength and conditioning exercises to work the body. Participants must be able to swim 25m and be confident in the water.
Aquafit An exhilarating all-over body workout using water for resistance. Fun and enjoyable and suitable for all levels of fitness. Participants must be able to swim 25m and be confident in the water.
Core Fitness A class designed to strengthen core muscles and help with posture and back problems.
L.B.T. This class is designed to strengthen the Legs, Bums and Tums, using resistance bands and body weight.
Latin Fusion A Cardio workout where you are free to enjoy Latin dance music with Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cha Cha, Reggaton, moves. A great way to work out and have some fun.
Pre-Natal Fitness A class designed for pregnant mums in their first, second and third trimester. Exercising throughout your pregnancy prepares you for labour and aids recovery after the birth. This class will help strengthen muscles, ease backache, increase blood flow, decrease tiredness and give you a good feeling about yourself during these changing times. Customers are required to book at least one hour before the session starts at the JSC Reception.

 

These cardiovascular workouts are challenging and intense.  They are great fat burners and will improve overall stamina.

Circuits This is the ultimate station-based class, providing a full body workout to improve mobility, strength and stamina and is ideal for both individuals and sports teams.
Express HIIT

In a HIIT class perform a burst of high-intensity (or max-intensity) exercise followed by a longer low-intensity activity repeatedly. This concept has you working at your maximum potential for that high cardio workout. Express HIIT give you that feeling of a 45 minute workout in a 30 minute class. Short, Sharp and fun!

Indoor Cycling

Indoor Cycling, has been around for more than 20 years and is a great way to improve overall aerobic fitness, in-crease stamina, lower body-fat levels and increase muscle tone.

Insanity INSANITY® is challenging, group-focused athletic training, cardio conditioning, and total-body strength drills, designed for people of all levels. The moves are easy to follow—but the workout WILL challenge you, change you, and get you in the best shape of your life. So as you're giving it your all, just when you feel like your body is about to max out on certain movements, you're saved by the bell and it's time for the next block of moves. Plus, moves can always be modified so you can work up to your own best level.
STRONG by Zumba Combines high intensity interval training with the science of Synced Music Motivation. In every class, music and moves sync in a way that pushes you past your perceived limits, to reach your fitness goals faster.
Zumba The Class that takes the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you'll see why Zumba® Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.

 

These workouts are for the mind and body.  Concentrating on muscular movemnets using breathing patterns and paying attention to form and alignment.  Improving the flexibility of the muscles.  Suitable for all participants.

Total Stretch A Workout that blends flexibility with balance and strength working through sequences to challenge the body, creating a feeling of calm and harmony a mind and body holistic approach.
Pilates Exercises to target the deep postural muscles and improve posture, strength and flexibility whilst relieving stress and tension. Classes are available to all levels of participant. Customers are required to book at least one hour before the session starts at the JSC Reception.
Fitness Yoga A mind and body workout combining the elements of traditional Yoga linked together in a flowing series of poses. A great way to experience Yoga.
Yoga Whether you are an experienced yogi or a beginner, a 'Less Is More' yoga class has something for you. Expect to learn, laugh and relax in a class designed to improve flexibility and to build up stamina and strength whilst also offering an opportunity to unwind and relax.

Where a fee is payable this must be paid at the time of booking. Failure to attend a pre-booked session will result in the loss of the booking fee.

Members who fail to attend pre-booked sessions without notifying Sport and Wellbeing Reception will be charged £5.00 and may lose advance booking privileges. Use of membership will be suspended until the fine is paid. Attendance is recorded for a class when a member swipes their ID card on the reader at the turnstiles when entering the facilities. Members are reminded that class bookings using a membership number can only be taken from the member themselves. It is not permitted to make a booking on behalf of another member.

Please note that will no longer be selling the multi-class passes.  Customers who have already purchased a pass may continue to use it until they have used up their credits or until it expires (all passes hold a 6 month expiry date).

As part of our partnership with Active Nation, Student and Staff members* can access some of the classes at Active Nation.

*Peak Performer, Frequent Fitness and Workout Central only.

If you wish to access these classes you first need to fill out our 'consent to share' form so that we can confirm to Active Nation that you are a member (NB this will take 72 hours).  Booking on the classes is done directly through Active Nation.

Wednesday 07:00-07:55 Body Pump BODYPUMP™ is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 590 calories.
Friday 13:00-13:55 Pilates A system of exercises using special apparatus, designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and posture, and enhance mental awareness.
Saturday 11:10-12:05 Body Combat A high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 740 calories in a class.
