About

Nikos Tzavidis is Professor of Statistical Methodology. After completing part of his postgraduate study, Professor Tzavidis joined the R&D unit of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat).  Since completing his PhD he has held a postdoctoral position at the University of Southampton and academic positions at the Centre for Longitudinal Studies, Institute of Education, University College London and at the Cathie Marsh Institute for Census and Survey Research, University of Manchester. He joined the University of Southampton for the second time in September 2010.

His research is being supported by the European Union's Framework Programmes, Horizon Europe, the UK Economic and Social Research Council, the British Academy, the UK Office for National Statistics and the UK Department for International Development. Professor Tzavidis is involved in consultancy work for National Statistical Institutes and Government Departments in the UK, National Statistical Institutes overseas (Netherlands, Mexico, Bangladesh, Colombia) the United Nations and the World Bank.

Professor Tzavidis is currently Vice-President of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) section of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), Chair of the IASS prizes committee, member of the ISI Ethics Advisory Board and elected fellow of the ISI. He is currently serving as Associate Editor for the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series C, the Journal of Official Statistics and International Statistical Review and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A. Professor Tzavidis is an academic assessor for the UK Government Statistical Service Fast Stream and on the advisory board of the Research Institute for Official and Survey Statistics in Germany.
