Karen Seymour is a Lecturer in English at the University of Southampton.

I've been teaching in higher education for the past 16 years. Courses include Images of Women, Children's Fiction, and Film, Fantasy, Fiction and Representing Women, 1890-1939.  In 2012 I was awarded the VC's Teaching Award after being nominated by students. In 2013, I was nominated in the category 'Outstanding Lecturer' at the Southampton University Students' Union Teaching Awards.

My main areas of research are late nineteenth-century New Women, medical developments and sexology.

Research interests

I have interests in Modernism, women's writing (English and American late 19th and 20th century), African American writing, contemporary fiction, and children's literature.
