Dr Chris Franks is lecturer in life sciences within Health Sciences, University of Southampton. His research interests include neuromuscular physiology, optogenetics and ageing processes at the neuromuscular synapse.

Understanding the complexity of life processes that underpin our existence is a voyage of discovery that should not be missed.

I have held a number of research/academic positions at The School of Biological Sciences University of Southampton and The MRC Functional-Genetics Unit. Department of Anatomy and Human Genetics, University of Oxford.

Research interests

My research has centred on neuromuscular physiology, the electrophysiological characterisation of synaptic function, the functional genetics of synaptic transmission, functioning of neural networks in model systems, optogenetic manipulation of neuromuscular function and the critical determinants of muscle cell excitability.
