Dr Danielle Lambrick is a Lecturer in Life Sciences within Health Sciences, University of Southampton. Danielle has over 10 years of applied experience in providing exercise rehabilitation to patients with stroke, Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and cardiac complications, and in administering fun, engaging and health-enhancing exercise interventions to paediatric populations. She is a founding member of the first community-focused, exercise and education, Vascular Rehabilitation Clinic for patients with minor stroke and TIA in New Zealand (www.massey.ac.nz/vrc).

Physical activity is a cornerstone in the primary prevention of non-communicable diseases.

Danielle joined Health Sciences in February, 2015. She previously worked as a Senior Lecturer in Health and Life Sciences, in the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health at Massey University in New Zealand (2010 – 2015).

Danielle obtained her Ph.D. in Sport and Health Sciences (2010), and prior to this, her B.Sc. (Hons) in Exercise and Sports Sciences (2006) from the University of Exeter, UK.

Research interests

Danielle’s research concerns the implementation of holistic lifestyle interventions for prevention of cardio- and cerebrovascular disease and associated events. She works predominantly with overweight and obese paediatric populations (in which she has an interest in health disparities across cultural groups; primary prevention), and with stroke and TIA patient groups (secondary prevention).

Areas of research interest/expertise:

  • Exercise physiology across the lifespan
  • Stroke / TIA / Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Obesity
  • Endothelial function
  • Oxygen uptake kinetics
  • Non-invasive measurements of modifiable vascular disease risk factors (including: pulse wave analysis (PWA), pulse wave velocity (PWV) [arterial stiffness, central and peripheral blood pressure]; ultrasound & flow-mediated dilation techniques; Near-infrared spectroscopy)
  • Mixed method, randomised controlled trials
