Marcus Hatton works on numerical simulations of neutron stars - the mathematical and computational aspects of extreme fluids in Einstein's theory of relativity. In particular, he is simulating dissipative fluid effects and will eventually study their impact on the gravitational wave signals obtained from merging neutron stars.

This is the third academic institution Marcus has been a member of, having completed an Undergraduate Degree in Natural Sciences (Physical) at the University of Cambridge and a Master’s Degree in Gravity, Particles & Fields at the University of Nottingham. There, his summer project involved modelling a Vainshtein screening mechanism that may explain why a modified theory of gravity (other than GR) does not show measurable effects within our Solar System. He then worked as a software engineer at InSync Technology Ltd. for two years, gaining valuable experience in programming in C++ before returning to academia and is now in his second year of study for his PhD.
