Uri Agnon is a Postgraduate research student within Music at the University of Southampton.

I am a composer and activist from Jerusalem researching the close connection between these two worlds. My creative-research is concerned with different strategies and practices of political music-theatre, ranging from pieces “about” politics to direct-action works. At the core of this research lies the struggle against the Israeli Occupation.

Research interests

I am interested in the ways in which music-theatre can act as political activism, exploring different strategies and artistic practices. My focus is the struggle against the Israeli Occupation of Palestian and its connections to colonialism and racism and anti semitism.

PhD research

This PhD is supported by the University of Southampton’s Presidential Award, the Jerusalem Institute of Contemporary Music’s Siday Fellowship, a scholarship from The British Friends of the Hebrew University and the British Council’s Lindsay Scholarship.

Supervisors: Dr. Matthew Shlomovitz and Dr. Valentina Cardo
