What to expect at our postgraduate events

Our postgraduate virtual open events are your chance to explore our University from wherever you are in the world. Here we’ll tell you what to expect on the day, what equipment you need, and what to do if you have a problem.

What to expect at our virtual master's open days

These events are open to everyone who’s interested in master’s study. You’ll be able to:

  • meet staff from your subject area
  • find out more about your chosen course
  • learn about funding options
  • get admissions advice from our dedicated team
  • learn about employability opportunities
  • discover how we'll support you
  • get information about visas and our international community
  • find out about student accommodation
  • learn about postgraduate student life, our clubs and societies
  • talk to current students about their postgraduate experience

The event is a mix of on-demand videos, talks, tours and live events where you can ask current staff and students your questions. When you complete the booking form we’ll send you full details of what’s on and when. If you have booked, everything will continue to be available to you after the event.

The lecturers were helpful, answering any and all of my questions. I am leaving feeling much more confident in my application.

Kate, previous master's open day attendee

What to expect at our postgraduate information afternoons

These virtual events are designed to give you a flavour of postgraduate life. Both prospective master’s and PhD students are welcome to attend. Generally, these events don’t include subject-specific content, but they will cover:

  • funding options
  • admissions advice
  • postgraduate support
  • student accommodation
  • advice for international students
  • postgraduate student life, our clubs and societies
  • a chance to talk to current student ambassadors

The events are live so you have the chance to ask questions.

We will connect everyone who books on one of these events with a relevant academic via email. You will then be able to send any questions you have about the subject you're interested in to a relevant academic.

It was great talking to current students....I felt really welcomed by everyone.

Lucy, previous attendee

What equipment and software you need

Our virtual events are free and are designed to work on desktop, mobile and tablet.

We use Unibuddy and Microsoft Teams to run parts of the events.

Our live information afternoons and the open day live student chats use Unibuddy. You'll need to create a Unibuddy login to join these events. You’ll be prompted to do this on the day, or you can visit our 'ask a student' page and hit the 'sign up' link to set up a Unibuddy account now

Our live open day Q and A subject sessions run on Microsoft Teams live events. You don’t need to have a Teams account to take part in these sessions. When you join the event there will be instructions, but you can also learn more about how to join a Teams live event.

How to change your booking

If you don't attend the event you've booked you'll still be able to access the content afterwards.

You can change your booking to a different day. Details of how to do this will be in an email from us, or you can contact us directly at enquiries@southampton.ac.uk

Because of COVID-19 we may need to change the dates, times, and overall circumstances of our postgraduate events. We will let you know if an event is cancelled.
