Biography
Sarah Pearce, B.D., DPhil., FRHistS, SFHEA.
I completed my DPhil (University of Oxford, 1995) on the interpretation of the laws of Deuteronomy in ancient Judaism, arriving at the University of Southampton in 1994 as a post-doctoral James Parkes Fellow in the Parkes Centre for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations and the Department of History. In 1997, I became the first Ian Karten Fellow, and was promoted in 2010 to a personal chair as Ian Karten Professor of Jewish Studies. From 2012 to 2016, I was Head of History, and since 2018 serve as the Head of the School of Humanities. I am a fomer President of the British Association of Jewish Studies (2010), and currently serve as Chair of the Anglo-Israel Archaeological Society, Chair of the Executive Committee of the European Association of Jewish Studies, and Co-Chair of the Society of Biblical Literature's Hellenistic Judaism unit.
