I am an historian of late medieval and early modern maritime history. As an historian I began my research examining English maritime logistics during the Hundred Years War, from which I published a book (Shipping the Medieval Military). Since then I have focused more attention on examining the size and geographical distribution of the English merchant fleet and investigating English maritime communities (c.1350-c.1765). My research involves the creation of relational databases and other digital humanities methodologies as a way of quantitatively investigation England’s maritime past.
