About

Yueyue Si is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Marine Biogeochemistry group, School of Ocean and Earth Sciences. She combines fieldwork and laboratory experiments to study how microbes cycle nitrogen in aquatic environments, using stable isotopes and geochemical measurements to trace these processes.

She is particularly interested in natural ways the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N₂O) can be removed from the environment, including her discovery of biological N₂O fixation, a process that consumes N₂O in freshwater systems. Her research also explores how N₂O dynamics are influenced by climate warming and nutrient availability, and how they interact with other greenhouse gases such as methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
