About
Yueyue Si is a Research Fellow in the Marine Biogeochemistry group, School of Ocean and Earth Sciences. She combines fieldwork and laboratory experiments to study how microbes cycle nitrogen in aquatic environments, using stable isotopes and geochemical measurements to trace these processes.
She is particularly interested in natural ways the potent greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N₂O) can be removed from the environment, including her discovery of biological N₂O fixation, a process that consumes N₂O in freshwater systems. Her research also explores how N₂O cycling is influenced by climate warming and nutrient availability, and how they interact with other greenhouse gases such as methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).

You can update this in Pure (opens in a new tab). Select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading and then ‘Curriculum and research description’, select ‘Add profile information’. In the dropdown menu, select - ‘About’.
Write about yourself in the third person. Aim for 100 to 150 words covering the main points about who you are and what you currently do. Clear, simple language is best. You can include specialist or technical terms.
You’ll be able to add details about your research, publications, career and academic history to other sections of your staff profile.
