I chose Southampton due to its proximity to Weymouth and other coastal venues.  The sailing team had a good reputation and I knew a lot of people already studying at the University. When I visited for an open day, I was drawn to the green spaces on campus and local parks such The Common.

Take every opportunity you can get, as the time goes really quickly, make the most of it

Reading a duals honours course meant I didn’t have to specify straight away, so I could keep my options open. It was good to meet different people from each course. I would like to become a chartered surveyor, so I am currently reading a part time Masters’ in Real Estate Investment and Finance. I’m finding the transition to postgraduate study relatively easy, my undergraduate degree complements my studies well.

I started sailing when I was seven years old, at 12 I started to compete and won medals in the World Sailing championships. I now sail full time, and I’m currently on track to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics, crewing for Bella Fellows in the 49er FX.

My advice would be to take every opportunity you can get, as the time goes really quickly. Don’t feel the pressure to sign up for every single society, choose one or two and make the most of it.
