About the study
We assessed mothers' nutrition and metabolism before and during pregnancy and the nutrition, growth and development of their children. We want to understand how to support the best start in life for children. -

Our people
Meet the NiPPeR Trial Management Group.
The NiPPeR study involves researchers in Southampton, Singapore and New Zealand from the EpiGen Global Research Consortium. They have trialled the use of a combination of nutrients and probiotics before and during pregnancy to improve the health of mothers and their children.
The NiPPeR multinational study is one the largest nutritional intervention studies in women during preconception and pregnancy.
- 1729 women and their partners recruited
- 585 NiPPeR babies delivered
Important insights have been emerging from the study. The EpiGen researchers continue to follow up the children, and have completed an exciting visit at age 6-8 years. We want to see if the benefits for the children are maintained into early school years and if better recommendations about the mother’s nutrition before and during pregnancy can support the children’s health, wellbeing and ability to learn.
Our teams have been busy following up the children and analysing the data and samples.
We thank our participants for all their contributions to the study and for their ongoing participation. Together we believe we can make a valuable positive impact on the health and wellbeing of mothers and the next generation.
