Research project

Understanding priorities for prison health research in Ghana in the face of climate change: a mixed-methods interdisciplinary study

Project overview

This project explores how climate change affects the health of people in Ghana’s overcrowded prisons. Working with local partners, we will speak to former prisoners, review currently available prison health and climate data, and hold discussions with key decision-makers. Our goal is to understand the challenges and priorities for improving prison health in Ghana, especially with the rise of extreme heat. The findings will help shape future research and policies that support better healthcare for prisoners. This work brings together experts from different disciplines to create practical, locally-driven solutions for a vulnerable and often overlooked population.
