Professor Joanne Lord will join SHTAC in August as Director and Professorial Fellow in Health Economics

SHTAC is pleased to welcome Professor Joanne Lord as its new Director. Joanne will be joining SHTAC from the Health Economics Research Group (HERG) at Brunel University, London, where she is Reader in Health Economics. Joanne’s research relates to the cost-effectiveness of healthcare interventions, including; therapies for low back pain and rheumatoid arthritis; tests for tuberculosis infection and disease; management of obesity in patients with diabetes; care pathways for atrial fibrillation; and prevention of cardiovascular disease. She is also interested in methods for economic analysis alongside clinical trials and decision analytic modelling.

Prior to joining HERG Joanne held posts at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Imperial College Management School, St. George’s Hospital Medical School and the Department of Health. Joanne’s PhD, which she received from St. George’s in 2003, investigated methods for the analysis of uncertainty in health economic evaluation.

“I am really looking forward to taking on this new role and further developing SHTAC as a centre of excellence in health technology assessment, building on the previous work done by Professor Andrew Clegg. The SHTAC team will to continue to provide high-quality research to inform healthcare decision making, adapting to meet new methodological challenges in the coming years”

Joanne will begin her post at SHTAC in August.
