NPLQ course

The Jubilee Sports Centre is an approved training centre for the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and offers courses for the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).  The NPLQ is open to anyone over the age of 16 on the day when the course is assessed.

The course is an ideal starting point for those wishing to start a career in the Leisure Industry, and is ideal for students looking for a part time job to help fund their studies.  Other benefits of becoming a RLSS Lifeguard are:

The NPLQ covers all elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR.  The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool.  More information about the course content can be found on the RLSS website

Assessment is split in to three sections. 

  • Practical pool assessment
  • Theory assessment - multiple choice written exam
  • Practical First Aid and CPR assessment

Candidates must pass all three sections to gain the qualification.

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump/dive in to deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool (the Jubilee Sports Centre swimming pool has a depth of 2m)
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps

Cost:  £220 (includes a copy of the Edition 9 manual)

Dates:  Monday 19th August - Friday 23rd August 2019, 08:00-18:00 (all days)

Candidates must be able to attend all dates on the course.

Course Cancellations/Transfers

If for any reason the course is not able to run we retain the right to cancel the course and offer you a transfer to another course or full refund.

The bookee cancelling the booking

Over 7 days before the course:  We are happy to offer a full refund or transfer your booking to another date upon request.

Over 48 hours before the course:  We will give a 50% refund or a full refund upon the presentation of a current doctor's note for the course period.

Less than 48 hours before the course:  We are not able to offer a refund.

Please note that the time period stated refers to start of the day, not the start of the course.  All refunds are limited to course fees only.  If you book local accommodation, you may choose to take out cancellation/holiday insurance.
