Carrying out my own research project helped me reach my goals

Published:

Siam was intrigued by Southampton’s spiral Medicine curriculum but she applied for a Medicine BM5 (BMBS) course because it offered the chance to explore her own research interests.

Now in my third year, I am doing my research project in Surgery. This is something I’ve always had an interest in.

My project helped me to better understand the Cardiothoracic field and how medicine is applied.

It’s helped me feel more ambitious now to work harder to achieve my goals.

Excellent support

At the start of my course, I was nervous about living away from home and meeting new people, but my course mates were very friendly and helpful. I’ve also had great support from Caroline Childs and my personal tutor who have been there from my first year until now.

My highlights

My role as publicity officer for the Muslim Medics Southampton was great. It helped me to gain skills of communicating with people and teamworking skills. Personally, I’ve loved making friends and exploring other cities near to Southampton.
