Anthony Davies is an MRes Advanced Biological Sciences student within the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton.

I graduated from the University of Southampton in 2020 with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry. My undergraduate dissertation focused on the protein Pdx1.3, a protein that synthesises Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (Vitamin B6) from the model organism Arabidopsis thaliana.

Research interests

I am undertaking the MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences, focusing on the characterisation of proteins involved in RedOx response in bacterial biofilms. Biofilms are are architectural colonies of bacteria that adhere to surfaces, providing a level of protection against antibacterial drugs.

Why I chose MRes Advanced Biological Science

I chose to undertake the MRes in Advanced Biological Sciences as the focus on laboratory work appeals to my practical nature. The programme offers the opportunity to develop key skills which are essential for those seeking employment in research based environments in the future.

Aims for the future

After completing the MRes programme, I am aim to gain a PhD position or enter research based industry. I enjoy working with and characterising proteins and would like to continue to do so as my career advances.
