Student Mentoring Scheme

Chemistry arrange for a student mentor to be available for you as you embark on your University life.

Student mentors providing guidance

The mentor, who we refer to as your 'parent' is normally one of our second year undergraduates who will have been through the same experiences as you only a year ago. Their role is to help you out during the first few weeks be showing you the locations of the teaching rooms in Chemistry and elsewhere on the campus. They will help you understand your timetable, introduce you to your personal tutor, and show you around the student union.

Their experience will help you settle and help you make friends within your new year group but also with students in the more senior years.

We have found that, in many cases, these 'parenting' relationships remain intact until the mentors themselves graduate at the end of their degree. By this time it is possible that you will have acted for a new student group as a 'parent', ensuring that you experience helps the next generation of students.

Our postgraduates will also be a constant source of support in the practical laboratories and in workshops throughout your degree programme.
