Staff of the Early Years Centre with children

Our staff and the key person

Our staff manage the running of the Centre along with key roles to ensure the needs and development of your child.

The staff to child ratios are in line with Ofsted Regulations which specifies:

  • Under twos' - one adult to three children
  • Two to three years old - one adult to five children
  • Over three's - one adult to eight children

Highly trained staff

The Centre is committed to employing high quality staff and follows the university's safer recruitment policies and procedures, and in accordance with all relevant legislation and best practice to ensure your child's safety.

The Manager is supported by Early Years Co-Ordinators, SendCo a Client Services Supervisor, together with an experienced and well trained team of Practitioners.

All staff at the Early Years Centre undertake a full induction and probation period when they first join the Centre. Staff are full supported with their on- going training and development, through the university training provider and the Early Years Partnership.

The role of the key person

The Early Years Centre is committed to providing quality and relevant play experiences for your child according to their individual needs through pairing with the key person.

A key person approach is the most effective way of ensuring that your child has a strong relationship with an adult in the Centre to support their emotional well-being.

The key person will help your child to form relationships with their peers and other staff members within the group. They will ensure that each child’s individual needs are recognised and met through close observation and monitoring of progress.

Children’s learning journals are compiled by the child’s key person using an online system. Parents are informed through the online system when a new observation has been added.

The key person is in the best position to share information with parents and carers about your child’s experiences in the Centre.

We have a close affiliation with local schools and the key person is instrumental in supporting your children’s transition to school by liaising with the children’s new teachers and sharing relevant information.
