Government “Working Parents” funding

For 9 months, 2 years and enhanced 3 year funding

All eligible children from nine months to the age of three years can now receive 15 hours per week in term time of free childcare.

That joins up with the existing “Universal Entitlement” scheme where all children aged three and four, who live in England, can get 15 hours of free childcare each week already, thereby taking their free childcare provision right up to school age.

If your family fit the same working parent criteria outlined below, eligible children aged three and four will be entitled to receive 30 hours in term time per week instead of the universal 15 hours.

Note: The Early Years Centre meets this entitlement by offering the term time funding spread over 50 weeks of the year. This means you will receive 11.4 hours or 22.8 hours funding per week.

Free childcare for babies 9 months and up

The three key eligibility criteria for children aged nine months to three years (inclusive) are outlined below.

All parents and guardians must:

  1. Expect to earn the equivalent of at least the National Minimum Wage or Living Wage for a minimum of 16 hours per week (on average) during the course of the next three months. That’s currently £183 per week for those over the age of 21 but the figure will be less for those who are younger or in an apprenticeship;
  2. Not be earning an adjusted net income over £100,000 during the relevant tax year;
  3. Have a National Insurance number.

Additional rules and caveats apply in certain specific situations including where you or your partner are foster carers, self-employed, starting a new job, earning a non-regular income, have a certain immigration status, are not working and in receipt of certain benefits or support, and others.
