Miss Alisha Mathers BA, MA
PhD Research Student

Alisha is a SWW DTP AHRC-funded PhD research student in English at the University of Southampton.
I began my academic studies at Keele University completing both a BA in English with first class honours (2018) and an MA in English Literatures with distinction (2019). During my studies, I established research interest in the roles of fictional and ethnographic narratives in the context of refugees and migration with specific focus on homemaking practices and spatial politics. In 2019, I continued to explore this area of study as a Presidential scholarship-funded student at the University of Southampton. As of October 2020, my research is funded by the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWWDTP) as part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC).
My research examines representations of refugee homemaking practices in the UK in contemporary fictional and ethnographic narratives, with specific focus on the (im)possibilities of creating sanctuary and a sense of home/belonging.
