Chris Gale is a Lecturer in Mental Health within Health Sciences, University of Southampton, Admissions Tutor for Mental Health Nursing programmes and Deputy Field lead for the BN Mental Health Nursing Programme. Chris’ clinical and published expertise covers adolescent mental health, with a particular focus on eating disorders. Chris’ research interest is around the power relationships between professional mental health staff and people who contribute their lived experience to the development of services.

We as mental health professionals need to stop asking those who have experienced mental distress what was wrong with them and start asking what has happened to them?

Chris has worked in health & social care with vulnerable children and young people since 1997. He qualified as a mental health nurse in 2003 and has practised in both inpatient and community child and adolescent mental health services, joining the school on secondment in September 2008 and as a full-time staff member in September 2010.
