About
Professor Niblo carries out research at the interfaces between geometry, group theory, topology and analysis with a particular interest in the large scale geometry of spaces of non-positive curvature. He has worked with a number of colleagues in mathematics, science and engineering to explore these topics and some of their applications and have worked in departments including Sussex, Queen Mary College London and his current home, the University of Southampton.
Graham was awarded an SERC Postdoctoral Fellowship in 1988 and a Leverhulme Fellowship in 2011 during which he spent time at Exeter College, Oxford, and his research has also been funded by EPSRC, the Royal Society and the NSF. He has had the privilege of working with a number of fantastic postdocs, funded by organisations ranging from EPSRC to the Sino-British Trust:
Dr. L.D. Reeves, EPSRC Research Assistant 1994, subsequently at Oklahoma, Oxford, Marseille. Now Senior Lecturer at Melbourne.
Dr. M.E. Sageev, EPSRC Research Assistant 1995-1997, subsequently tenure track at Rutgers, now Professor, Technion.
Dr. J. Crisp, EPSRC Research Assistant1997-1998, now Chargé de Recherche CNRS, Dijon.
Dr. S.J.Campbell, EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellow 2005-2009, now retired (ill health).
Dr. N.J. Wright, Leverhulme Research Fellow 2006-2007, now Associate Professor, Southampton.
Dr. Aditi Kar, EPSRC Research Assistant 2008-2011, subsequently EPSRC Fellow, Oxford, now Senior Lecturer, Royal Holloway.
Dr. Ana Khukhro EPSRC Doctoral Prize 2011-2012, subsequently Postdoctoral Fellow at the Université Blaise Pascal, Maître Assistante at the Université de Neuchâtel , now Senior Research Associate at the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics and Director of Studies in mathematics at Murray Edwards College.
Dr. Ruben Sanchez-Garcia, EPSRC Research Assistant 2009-2013, now Associate Professor in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Southampton.
Dr. Valerio Capraro, Faculty funded RA 2012-2014, subsequently at Center for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), Amsterdam, now Senior Lecturer in Economics, Middlesex.
Dr. Jiawen Zhang, Sino-British Trust/Newton fellowship 31/03/2016-31/03/2021, now lecturer at Fudan University, Shanghai.

Teaching
Graham currently teaches group theory and cryptography at undergraduate and integrated masters level, but has also taught a wide range of Mathematics courses at UG and PG level, including: Number Theory; Analysis; Topology; Harmonic Analysis; Representation Theory; Mathematics for Chemists; Linear Algebra; 3-manifolds; Coxeter Groups; CAT(0) cube complexes.
Graham also runs the National Cipher Challenge, which can be viewed as a distance learning programme in elementary cryptography for school age pupils. He has written/is updating a UG level programme Introduction to Group Theory.
