Eluned Pickup is a Senior Teaching Fellow within Southampton Education School at the University of Southampton with responsibility for tutoring a number of trainees across the PGCE programme.
Eluned's teaching interests include understanding how pupils learn and strategies to support effective behaviour management.
A particular area of interest for Eluned is the impact of effective coaching and mentoring on the professional development of individuals.
Eluned holds a Batchelor of Arts, honours degree from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. She has a PGCE and holds the professional qualification of an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) and the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).
Eluned is first and foremost a teacher with almost 30 years’ experience of working within the secondary school sector, who has a passion for enabling young people to become lifelong learners, She facilitates that by supporting teachers and trainees to be the best they possibly can be.
Currently her work with trainees at the University of Southampton involves providing support, guidance and skills to enable them to develop their classroom practice.
Eluned started her teaching career in a Welsh-speaking secondary school and was Head of Department there for seven years, before relocating to the South of England. She has since worked at a further three secondary schools and has held the roles of Assistant Head, Deputy and Acting Head Teacher.
