About

Dr Chengchen Zhang is currently a Lecturer (aka Assistant Professor) in the Digital Health & Biomedical Engineering Group (DHBE), which is a part of the School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) at the University of Southampton, UK. She is also a visiting scholar at UNSW and the University of Sydney in Australia. Dr Zhang has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals including ACS Nano, Advanced Functional Materials, Small, Chemistry of Materials, ACS Applied Materials Interfaces, and Applied Materials Today. Her works have been cited >700 times (h index = 16, based on the source of Google Scholar.) She was awarded the Newton International Fellowship from the Royal Society in 2023.

Dr Zhang's research group aims to tackle the challenges in therapeutics and health monitoring with the following focus areas:

  • Understanding nano-bio interactions for precise controlled therapy (e.g., anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer treatments), bioinspired engineering (e.g., enzyme mimics), and biosafety assessment (e.g., medical and environmental impacts).
  • Creating smart sensing platforms for highly sensitive detection in rapid disease diagnosis and health monitoring, leveraging the distinctive properties of advanced materials and the power of artificial intelligence.
