The MSc Risk & Finance and MSc Risk Management programmes delivered by Southampton Business School have recently been re-accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and the Institute for Risk Management (IRM).

The accreditations have been awarded in recognition of how the learning objectives on the two risk degree programmes match multiple parts of the learning objectives on the professional qualifications offered the CII and IRM. Specifically, students who complete specific modules on either the MSc in Risk & Finance or the MSc Risk Management programme will receive (a) full exemption from the IRM’s International Diploma in Risk Management, and (b) exemption from some modules that form part of the CII’s prestigious professional qualifications.

Dr Ian Dawson, the Director of the Centre for Risk Research and the Leader of the MSc Risk & Finance programme, said “We are delighted to have re-secured these ‘recognition of prior learning’ accreditations for our two risk master’s degrees. The accreditations demonstrate both the high quality of the risk-related education that we offer and that the content of our risk programmes is of great relevance to the latest approaches and practices within the risk and insurance sectors. I’m sure that these accreditations will prove to be of great benefit to the employability of our graduates.”

Dr Mario Brito, the Leader of the MSc in Risk Management said, “Being awarded these professional accreditations is something that will benefit the students in both the short-term and long-term. The students will have access to more employment opportunities and to more career development activities, such as professional seminars and training courses. This will allow them to be better prepared to adapt to the very dynamic environment that society and businesses are going through.”
