Event details

In this Centre for Risk Research Seminar, Matthew Leitch will explain how his series of surveys has revealed much about what most people with an interest in management think about risk management. This seminar summarises the results and methods of these surveys, revealing the risk management we prefer. The results show that: (1) the focus on risk registers, typical in risk management guidance for companies and project management, is inconsistent with the views of most respondents, and (2) many people over-estimate the support for risk registers. The seminar will also explore the potential for more research of this type to change the direction of future guidance.

Speaker information

Matthew Leitch,Matthew Leitch is a visiting lecturer at the Southampton Business School. He teaches risk management on three modules and supervises Masters dissertations. Matthew is the author of two books on risk management and is a member of the RM/1 Risk Management committee at the British Standards Institution, on which he serves as the representative for the Centre for Risk Research. Matthew is a reformer and has worked hard over many years to explain to risk management standard and guidance writers that there is more to risk management than risk registers. He has carried out a series of surveys that reveal what most people think about risk management and how it should be done.
