Career Advantage combines pre-arrival preparation, hands-on learning, mentoring and personalised careers support, boosting your employability from the moment you accept your offer.

Before you arrive

Before starting your course, you'll take part in Career Ready+ webinars. These sessions help you build professional skills and personal branding, connect with University staff and notable alumni, and prepare for the UK job market.

While you study

During your studies, you can:

• access more than 500 paid internship opportunities at the University
• map all your activities against Successful Futures - our award-winning skills programme for career readiness
• earn University-verified digital badges and certificates to showcase your experience
• access the Volunteering and Community Impact Award to build skills-based work experience
• connect with UK and global industry professionals through online mentoring
• get support from our 1:1 Careers Clinics, workshops and employer events

These routes are flexible and visa-compatible alongside your studies. Your experience is officially checked, confirmed and recognised by the University, so employers have trusted evidence of your skills.

Enterprise and business

If you're interested in starting a business or building a freelance career, you'll have the space and support you need. 

You can:

• access the Student Enterprise Junction co-working space
• tap into seed funding, enterprise mentors and skills development support
• develop your entrepreneurial skills alongside your degree and career activities

You'll build practical skills that support both your studies and your future career.

After you graduate

After you finish your course, you can:

• continue your mentoring journey through alumni contacts and employer networking events
• connect with roles and employers worldwide through International Career Clinic appointments and the UoS LinkedIn International Talent Community
• access local support and real-world advice to navigate job markets through our alumni branches in 185 countries and territories

What happens next

To access our Career Ready+ offer holder programme, you will need to accept your offer from us. We will email you all the details before the programme starts.

After you have accepted your offer, you'll have access to a fully supported pathway, which adapts with you to help you meet your career goals, from before you even arrive at Southampton until you’re settled in post-graduate life.
