Career Advantage India

A student meets with a careers adviser for individual guidance in an on-campus careers space.

We're excited to launch our innovative employability programme, giving students from India tailored opportunities including access to careers consultancy in India, and entrepreneurial skills development.

Build your personal career path

The experience you'll gain through our Career Advantage programme in the UK translates into global opportunity. You'll be ready to make an impact in India's fast-moving job market.

As the first global top 100 university with a campus in India, you'll also benefit from our reputation with employers in India and the close connection with Southampton through our Delhi campus.

Before you arrive

When you accept your offer from us, we'll invite you to join our Career Ready+ webinar series.

These sessions help you:

  • build professional skills
  • understand job opportunities in the UK and India
  • start your career planning early
  • connect with alumni, industry connections and University staff

While you study

At Southampton, you can take part in:

  • skills-based volunteering opportunities - digitally badged and verified by the University
  • over 500 paid internship opportunities
  • skills development activities linked to our award-winning Successful Futures programme
  • enterprise workshops, challenges and mentoring
  • one-to-one careers guidance and employer events

These routes are flexible and visa-compatible alongside your studies. Your experience is officially checked, confirmed and recognised by the University, so employers have trusted evidence of your skills.

Volunteering gives you genuine UK work experience that's flexible (from a few hours to several weeks), visa-compatible, and valued by employers back home.

After you graduate

You'll receive tailored support from our dedicated careers consultant in India for up to 5 years after you graduate.

Support includes:

  • intensive job coaching
  • employer networking events
  • guidance for entering India's graduate job market
  • India-specific alumni networks through the Career Buddy scheme
  • opportunities to connect with our global alumni community

If you're interested in starting your own business, you can also access enterprise support when you return home.

Additional support

Mentoring

You'll have access to:

  • online mentoring with industry professionals
  • UK-India mentoring links

These support you in understanding different job markets and building meaningful professional connections.

We're proud of our ecosystem of enterprise and innovation. Whether you're interested in starting your own business or building a freelance career, you'll have the space and support you need.

You can:
