MA in Education

Hi, I'm Charles Harrison and I studied BSc Chemistry within Chemistry at the University of Southampton.

I was really impressed with the attitude to teaching at Southampton; there was a constant focus on improvement and innovation.

During my time at Southampton as an undergraduate, I was constantly challenged by the chemistry course. The long hours in the lab and advanced material in the lectures were their own reward and I felt constantly stretched throughout my degree.

I was really impressed with the attitude to teaching at Southampton; there was a constant focus on improvement and innovation. The student voice was really important to the staff as whenever there was a problem it was dealt with at the highest level immediately and a good dialogue was always present.

This led me to take an interest in the field of higher education, in which I am now taking an MA. The active outreach program at Southampton gave me hands on experience at communicating science to local school children. These were great experiences which honed my interpersonal skills as well as allowing me to spread my enthusiasm for science. I hope to be able to improve the teaching of chemistry through the research skills I learned in my undergraduate course.
