General English for Academic Purposes Summer Pre-Sessional Programmes

The Pre-sessional summer Programmes will allow you to develop the language skills you need to study at a British University. You will also develop the necessary study skills for effective learning through the medium of English and be introduced to everyday life in Britain.

Courses

Every summer the University of Southampton offers two general English for Academic Purposes Pre-sessional Programmes (Course A and Course B) to international students who plan to follow a degree programme at the University.

The aims of these programmes are to:

  • extend your existing English language knowledge and skills to meet the English language requirements of your conditional offer from the University of Southampton
  • develop the academic study skills required for study at university in the UK
  • familiarise you with the learning and teaching strategies used in higher education in the UK
  • help you settle in to life in Britain both within and beyond the academic environment

In addition to formal teaching and learning, regular social, cultural and language practice activities are offered by student helpers and staff.
