The highlight of my time at Southampton so far has been my course field trip to Ghana in March 2016. This was an amazing experience, one which I wouldn’t have experienced if it wasn’t for coming to Southampton.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I chose to study at Southampton for the course. The course is very unique to the University of Southampton and there are very few others which have a strong focus on population and demography.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?

The highlight of my time at Southampton so far has been my course field trip to Ghana in March 2016. This was an amazing experience, one which I wouldn’t have experienced if it wasn’t for coming to Southampton. Another highlight is definitely the opportunity to do a year in employment with the Food Standards Agency. I feel that I have grown so much as person since starting my placement and have learnt more than I expected.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

One thing I do really enjoy about my course is the topics that we cover and learning about different countries. It’s something that I have really missed while doing a Year in Employment, even though I still have been learning on my placement, I miss the academic side of learning.

How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?

Apart from learning a vast amount of knowledge in my subject area, my mathematical and literacy skills have increased immensely. I find it a lot easier to write academically and my vocabulary has increased. I also think I have become more confident with my own ability and I find it a lot easier to talk to people from all different walks of life.
