Rachele Morse joined the Initial Teacher Education team in September 2011 as Senior Teaching Fellow and Course Leader for the History, Geography and Religious Education PGCE programmes. She is now the Programme Director for the Secondary PGCE

As Programme Director for the Secondary PGCE, course leader for the Humanities subjects, Rachele combines her experience in Secondary classrooms with her research interests in mentoring and coaching in order to shape and develop early career teachers

She works with trainee teachers and school partnerships to develop innovative and effective programmes of teacher development, rooted in a firm understanding of pedagogy and specialist curriculum knowledge.

Rachele also contributes to the foundation subjects provision for the Primary PGCE programme and is module leader for the BSc(Hons) Education programme.

Rachele taught in secondary schools for 12 years prior to joining the ITE team. She holds a Masters in Professional Practice and believes in a highly practical and experiential approach to teacher development, which is firmly rooted in pedagogical research.

Rachele’s specific areas of interest within ITE lie in mentoring and coaching of early career teachers and also developing pupils’ learning and thinking skills. Her work in these areas has included conference presentations at BERA and at the annual conference of the National Teacher Research Panel, TEAN and the Westminster Education Forum. Rachele has published work on mentoring in the professional journal ‘Teaching History’ and is a member of the History Teacher Education Network (HTEN), UCET and the Russell Group Secondary ITE committee.

I teach the History trainees on the University Led and School Direct PGCE Programmes. I contribute to the History teaching for the Primary PGCE and lead on two modules for the BSc Education Studies degree programme.
