Lecturer in Law
Dr Ainhoa Campàs Velasco is a Lecturer in Law at the School of Law, University of Southampton.
Ainhoa first joined the University of Southampton in 2007, collaborating with the Institute of Maritime Law in a number of projects. She was a part-time lecturer at Southampton Law School from 2008 to 2014 conducting tutorials in the module of Carriage of Goods by Sea at postgraduate and undergraduate levels.
Ainhoa joined the Bar Association of Madrid in 1998 and has a background of ten years of legal practice in two leading maritime law firms in Madrid, specialising substantially in litigation, cargo claims, charterparty disputes and maritime administrative proceedings.
Ainhoa’s research interests lie primarily in the legal areas of maritime law, the law of the sea, international human rights law and more recently international refugee law, with increasing emphasis on the interaction between the law of the sea and maritime law and broad considerations of humanity. The intersection of these legal arenas was at the core of her PhD research, where she focused on treaty interpretation and the integration of human rights law and refugee law considerations in the reading of maritime legal instruments relevant to search and rescue at sea. During her research, Ainhoa also developed particular interest in the notion of vulnerability and the legal implications of vulnerability reasoning in treaty interpretation.
