Kathleen Goddard

Background

Kathleen Goddard is a Visiting Fellow in the Institute of Maritime Law. She graduated with an LL.B. (Hons) degree from the University of Birmingham and an LL.M. from the University of London. She trained as a solicitor with a leading firm of solicitors in the City of London which specialises in maritime and commercial law before commencing an academic career. Kathleen has taught at the Inns of Court School of Law, the University of Exeter, the University of Southampton and the University of Plymouth. As a member of the British Maritime Law Association Standing Committee on Carriage of Goods, she submitted comments and papers to the Committee on aspects of the preliminary drafts of the Rotterdam Rules.  Kathleen has also been the co-organiser of conferences on migration by sea and piracy.

Kathleen now devotes her time to research and writing. She also speaks at national and international conferences. 

 

Interests

Kathleen’s principal interests are in admiralty law, carriage of goods by sea and other methods of transport, international trade and commercial law. She is currently engaged in research relating to reducing air pollution from ships and also developing her interest in maritime legal history.
