Karen has extensive experience over the past six years, primarily in qualitative research for educational studies with a range of organisations, including government agencies. Her most recent work has focused on educational assessment for university admissions.
Between 2019 and 2022, Karen was involved in establishing the NGO Minerva, which aims to promote comprehensive sexuality education in Chile.
Since her undergraduate thesis, Karen has been interested in researching migration and inclusion in schools within the Chilean context. For her Master’s thesis, she explored its intersection with sexuality, investigating adolescents’ sex-affective relationships and body image in classrooms with a high proportion of migrant students. This work informs her current doctoral research, in which she applies a feminist decolonial approach through the use of participatory methods with adolescents.
