We are a leading centre for health technology assessment and health services research in the UK. Our expertise in evidence synthesis, health economics and information science informs timely policy decisions on the use of new healthcare technology and services, directly benefitting patients and ensuring good value for money for our health service.

Part of Medicine

For over 20 years, SHTAC has specialised in assessing the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a wide range of health and care services and technologies. We review, summarise and critique evidence for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), and contribute to research studies evaluating promising new interventions. Located in the School of Healthcare Enterprise and Innovation, we engage with service providers, business partners and stakeholders from public bodies and the life sciences industries. In addition to research, we work on knowledge exchange and enterprise activities. Our popular introductory training courses on systematic reviews and health economic evaluation disseminate critical knowledge and skills, increasing capacity in health technology assessment locally and on a national scale.
