Aeronautics and Astronautics

Aeronautics and Astronautics encompasses a broad range of disciplines in the field of aerospace engineering, with applications to the specification, design and construction of airframes, engines, satellites and other spacecraft. We are the only Russell Group university to offer degrees that combine both aeronautics and astronautics.

You can either choose to retain a broad-based study path with our BEng and MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics, or to select one of our seven specialised degrees.

BEng Aeronautics and Astronautics

BEng Aeronautics and Astronautics

This three-year course covers the core subjects of aeronautics and astronautics, such as aerodynamics, astronautics and propulsion, and the economic, legal and environmental factors of aircraft and spacecraft.

MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics

MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics

This four-year integrated masters will provide you with the opportunity to study a wider range of advanced aerospace subjects, extending your knowledge and skills through a major group design project.

Choose to specialise with one of our seven MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics themes:

If you have not taken the required A level subjects for direct entry to your chosen degree, then you can take our one-year Foundation Year. You may also be interested in our Aerospace Electronic Engineering courses. We also have a campus in Malaysia that offers our MEng Aeronautics and Astronautics degrees.

Southampton was an obvious choice for me as it is one of the few universities that offers a course dedicated to spacecraft engineering - one of the most exciting fields available to any young engineer.
