About
Rosalind Edwards is Professor of Sociology based in the department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology (SSPC) in the School of Economic, Social and Political Sciences at the University of Southampton.
Rosalind’s research focuses on family lives and policies; micro historical comparative work on communities; advancing qualitative, qualitative longitudinal and 'big qual' methods; and on learning about decolonising and Indigenous partnership research approaches. She contributes to teaching on race and ethnicity, and research methods.

Current research
Rosalind currently is involved in the following research projects:
A Leverhulme-funded historical comparative project exploring social and spatial encounters of living with difference in the the past, to offer insights for the present.
The contribution of sociologists’ wives to the generation of social knowledge, drawing on a British Academy / Leverhulme funded study.
An AHRC-funded Indigenous partnership project exploring decolonisation of participatory action research.

Rosalind’s has run and contributed to undergraduate and postgraduate modules on:

She is a Personal Academic Tutor to undergraduate students, and also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations.
Rosalind supervises doctoral students in her main areas of expertise, especially family lives and communities, and the application of qualitative research methods.

Biography
Rosalind is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.
She was founding and co-editor of the International Journal of Social Research Methodology.
She has held the roles of Faculty Chair of the Ethics Committee and School Director of Research at the University.
