I am a Professor of Business Analytics at Southampton Business School, the University of Southampton and a member of the Centre for Operational Research, Management Sciences and Information Systems (CORMSIS) an Centre for Healthcare Analytics. I am also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Simulation, an Area Editor for Flexible Services and Manufacturing Journal, the general council member of The OR Society and the former chair of The OR Society's Special Interest Group in Simulation. I did my PhD in Computer Science at the National University of Singapore and MSc in Operational Research Management Science at Lancaster University.
Currently, I am the Business School Director of Internationalisation. I am also serving as the external examiner at the University of Bath School of Maanagament for MSc programmes in the School of Management and the MRes in Management element on the Integrated PhD.
- Simulation Modelling Methodology
- Behavioural Modelling using Simulation
- Simulation for real-time decision making
- Simulation Applications
Multi-fidelity Simulation Optimisation for Digital Twin: High fidelity simulation model may not be practical for real-time decision making in digital twin; hence, a low fidelity model is needed to guide the high fidelity model find the optimal solutions faster. In this research, I have collaborated with Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation, Ford Motor Company., Rolls Royce and an Australian hospital.
Behavioural Modelling using Simulation: Eliciting human behaviours to be used in an agent-based simulation model is challenging. Hence, interested in studying various elicitation methods including serious games, questionnaire, experiments, interviews, focus group and diary. In this research, I have applied the methods in supply chain, healthcare and disaster management.
Hybrid modelling and hybrid simulation: when dealing with complex systems, one modelling method may not be sufficient. Hence, there is a need for combining different modelling methods for example simulation and heuristics (simheuristics), simulation and machine learning, simulation and games, agent-based simulation and system dynamics, discrete-event simulation and agent-based simulation, etc.
Current PhD Students
I teach mainly business analytics modules such as Foundation of Business Analytics, Introduction to Data Analytics, Simulation Modelling (Discrete-Event Simulation, System Dynamics and Agent-Based Simulation), and Behavioural Operations.
