Studying at Southampton is enjoyable as especially during 3rd year I have been able to choose my modules so I really enjoy everything I am learning about, I can also tell that the lecturers are passionate about what they are teaching.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

Southampton was a good university for Psychology, I also really liked the campus as other universities I had visited had more spread out campuses around the city, whereas I like the Southampton campus as it is all together in one place and also has nice grass areas where you can sit in the sunshine during summer.

What is it like studying here?

Studying at Southampton is enjoyable as especially during 3rd year I have been able to choose my modules so I really enjoy everything I am learning about, and I can also tell that the lecturers are passionate about what they are teaching.

In first year the first few lectures I had were introduction lectures which gave me an insight into the course without overwhelming me with content. This was very useful as it gave me a couple of weeks to get used to the structure of lectures.

Do you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?

Yes we have the opportunity to study a range of modules, including non-psychology modules. Although I enjoy the psychology modules the most, many of my friends love the non-psychology modules.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

I have enjoyed learning more about psychological processes the most throughout university. Although it has been a huge step up from A level Psychology, lectures have been conducted in a way that makes the content interesting and builds up my knowledge one lecture to the next. The development of my coursework skills has also been enjoyable, as although at the time I find writing coursework difficult and time consuming, once I have finished a piece I feel very proud of my work, and receiving feedback on how I can improve in my next piece of writing has been crucial in making sure I am bettering my abilities.

How do you rate the study facilities at the University?

The library is a real asset to the university, I often go to the library to study as it has good quite study areas without distractions. Lots of people go to the library so it is nice to just be around others, but also meet up with friends or work with friends to make revision and coursework more enjoyable. The group study rooms in the library have also been very useful for group projects and can easily be booked on the Southampton website.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?

My highlights would definitely be the amazing people I have met who are now great friends. I had never lived away from home before coming to university so making good friends made this transition much easier. Some of my closest friends I have made have been through university societies, which have been great ways to interact with friends and the wider community.
