What is a Clinical Lectureship (CL)?
CLs are designed for specialist trainees and newly qualified GPs with a higher degree (PhD or MD).
Most are NIHR-funded but the University of Southampton does offer some locally-funded positions. Both have the same access to resources and support.
CLs take four years, or until the trainee reaches their completion of clinical training (CCT), whichever is sooner.
Clinical Lecturers spend half of their time doing specialist clinical training and half undertaking research. They are expected to extend the findings from their higher degrees into new (related) areas of research to develop applications for externally-funded intermediate level fellowships.
What specialties are available?
We appoint CLs in various specialties every year. Visit our vacancies page to find out more about what is available. If you are interested in applying for a post in any of these specialities, please contact the relevant Academic Lead.
