The Centre for Risk Research was well represented at the leading international conference on the Theories and Practices of Securities and Financial Markets held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in December 2014.

Ming-Wei Hsu explains his findings

Ming Wei Hsu delivered a paper (jointly authored by Professor Ming-Chien Sung,  Dr. Tiejun Ma and Professor Johnnie Johnson),  examining the degree to which financial market traders learn to improve their performance. In addition, Johnnie Johnson presented a paper (jointly authored with Shaosong Wang, Professor Ming Chien Sung and Dr. Peter Fraser MacKenzie) examining the manner in which the risk taken by financial market traders is influenced by weather factors. Both papers were well received and the conference provided the opportunity for the Centre for Risk Research to develop research links with universities in SE Asia and Europe.

"This is the first time I have participated in an international conference and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I learned a great deal from engaging in the discussion of the papers presented. In particular, the critiques on other papers also provide me some different perspective to develop my own papers. I received positive feedback on my presentation and had the opportunity to discuss my work with researchers from Japan, Australia and China. This whole experience has given me renewed enthusiasm for my research."
