Accounting is a focus for research and teaching on a wide range of accounting and finance topics. The work of our internationally renowned academics includes an increasing and unique emphasis on corporate governance, taxation and contemporary accounting issues.

We deliver a number of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes that attract high-quality students and whose graduates are sought after by employers. The programmes are designed (and regularly reviewed) to ensure they provide the right combination of academic rigour and practical relevance as informed by professional standards, employer expectations, research-led insights and business links.

Banking and finance

Banking and Finance brings together internationally renowned academics who undertake research into, and teach, a wide range of theory-driven finance-related topics. The department's growing focus includes the study of sustainable and computational finance, as well as financial risk in the banking industry.

Our educational portfolio includes an undergraduate programme in Finance and Financial Technology and a number of postgraduate programmes in finance and banking.  We design and regularly review our programmes to ensure they combine academic rigour and practical relevance, as informed by professional standards, employer expectations, research-led insights and business links.

Decision analytics and risk

Decision Analytics and Risk brings together established specialisms with a strong track record in research. We combine excellence in management sciences and decision analysis, working with many major international companies and educating future specialists across industry and commerce.

We are a leading authority in management science, risk and information systems, realised and delivered through research, education and consultancy. We develop innovative analytical approaches for improving decision-making and risk-taking and support individuals and businesses to make sound and effective decisions through the application of scientific analytical tools.

The department unites knowledge and experience across the critical components of decision analysis and their application to strategic, tactical and operational scenarios.

Digital and data driven marketing

We explore the challenges of the digital economy and society, with a focus on the impact of technologies and innovation.

The department of Digital and Data Driven Marketing staff focus on real-life and contemporary marketing challenges in advertising, branding, consumer behaviour, digital and social media marketing, international marketing, CSR, relationship marketing, retailing and marketing strategy within B2C, B2B and C2C contexts. Our expert researchers study small and large enterprises, for-profit and not for-profit organisations, using theoretical lenses that help understand how technologies and innovative developments enhance customer experience, boost firm performance and contribute to societal well-being.

The department at Southampton Business School specialises in innovative research-led academic curriculum and is consistently recognised in the UK as being at the forefront of delivering specialist marketing courses. The teaching aims to provide a balance of state-of-the-art knowledge and skills relevant for the business and professional world. Our graduates are in high demand for corporate placements and employment.

Human resource management and organisational behaviour

The Department of Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organisational Behaviour (OB) at Southampton Business School (SBS) brings together a team of internationally renowned academics with teaching and research interests in the fields of human resource management and organisational behaviour, as well as in associated fields such as industrial/employment relations, employment studies, organisation studies, labour economics, and work sociology. 

The Department has a thriving undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio, built on the research strengths and expertise of its staff. We lead the MSc Human Resource Management programme and contribute to modules on other programmes offered by SBS.

The department of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship delivers world-class research and teaching on innovation and enterprise. Through our unique interconnected and interdisciplinary approach, we provide world-leading expertise on innovation and enterprise with a particular focus on its international dimensions, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.

Our innovative approach extends to teaching and education, with business leaders contributing to classes, while co-creating real-world assessment projects for students to connect theory to practice. This is supported by realistic business simulations, product development and blended learning approaches, to provide a rich student experience.
