ChemistryWho we are

Our approach

All our activities are underpinned by a commitment to quality and impact. This applies to our world-leading research, which aims to make a positive contribution to the world around us. It is also central to our teaching programmes.

We share our passion for discovery to inspire and nurture chemists of the future. Today’s students demand an increasingly personalised educational experience, and we are able to offer flexible undergraduate programmes with a range of modules and placements to help them discover their individual talents.

Our curriculum is constantly updated, creating a vibrant and dynamic study environment. In addition, our academic staff are at the forefront of their fields, which means they are ideally placed to share the most up-to-date knowledge.

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) accredits all of our BSc and MChem degrees so our students can gain full RSC professional membership status upon graduation and use the professional title of Chartered Chemist (CChem).

A diverse learning experience

While our focus is on academic excellence we also aim to equip our students for the future, whether they choose to pursue further research or other career paths. Professional and personal development is available through our volunteering projects, giving our students the edge in a working environment where experience and ‘soft’ skills are increasingly important. Pastoral support is a top priority and we are at the forefront of developments in this area. We provide an intellectually challenging yet supportive environment, which ensures that every student has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Our research activities are incredibly diverse and have a multidisciplinary flavour, which ensures our researchers and PhD students understand the value of collaboration with other disciplines such as biology, medicine, physics, engineering and computing. Our staff and students publish hundreds of research articles every year in world-renowned, high impact, scientific journals and this expertise is fed directly into teaching our students.
