Accommodation

Discover our accommodation options and how you can apply.

We have around 50 chemistry postgraduate research students, supervised by 38 academic staff committed to high quality research and teaching. Most entrants have a background in chemistry but we welcome students with training in biochemistry, physics, polymer science, environmental sciences, engineering and all related subjects.

World-class facilities

Our facilities are first rate. All students are located in new or recently fully refurbished custom-designed buildings with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, including an extensive range of IT equipment and facilities.

Supporting your studies

As a postgraduate researcher you will have the freedom to set your own timetable and agenda. We recognise that it can feel very different to undergraduate study, and will provide you with plenty of advice and support along the way.

We encourage students to continue to broaden their education while doing research projects by attending postgraduate lectures, seminars, technical instruction, and skills development.

The city

Southampton is a thriving modern city, steeped in history and with a vibrant mix of recreation, culture and entertainment. Cinemas, sports facilities, internationally acclaimed arts venues and one of the UK’s top shopping centres – the city has something for everyone.

Uni-link buses provide easy access to the city, the airport and coach and train stations. As well as excellent links to Europe via cross-channel ferries from Portsmouth and Poole, there are frequent flights to continental destinations from Southampton and Bournemouth International Airports.

“Postgraduate study is a very different experience from undergraduate study – you’re not worrying about exams or lab reports, it’s all about the project, and you get to push forward into entirely new areas”
