Dr Booker Ogutu is Lecturer in Remote Sensing within Geography and Environmental Science at the University of Southampton. He joined Geography and Environmental Science in January 2015. His research interests lie in the exploitation and application of Earth Observation data to understand terrestrial ecosystem characteristics and dynamics.

Research interests

Dr Booker Ogutu’s current research focuses on the use of Earth Observation data to:

  • Characterise vegetation biophysical and biochemical variables and their dynamics
  • Quantify terrestrial carbon exchange and its dynamics
  • Understand the impacts of climate change on livelihoods
  • Estimate and predict crop yield/production under changing climatic conditions

Research Projects

Estimation and mapping of crop yield gap in China: The STFC Newton-funded project aims to develop methods of quantifying and mapping crop yield gap in China using Earth Observation data.
