Research vessels

Used by staff and students for a range of fieldwork and research, our vessels include R.V. Callista, a 19.75m catamaran designed and equipped for a range of coastal and shelf research, and a 12m research vessel, R.V. Bill Conway, for use in local waters.

We have three vessels based at NOCS and available to staff and students in Ocean and Earth Science.

Ranging from 7.00 to 19.75 metres in length, the purpose built vessels are designed to undertake a variety of work including:

Key facts

Our vessels are manned by appropriately qualified crew who have extensive local knowledge and experience in the deployment of scientific equipment and sample collection. The vessels are all licenced by the MCA.

All vessels carry basic standard equipment, but can be further fitted from our range of oceanographic field equipment to suit individual requirements. Vessels may also be available for commercial hire.
